Doug Gealy, one of the Company’s three co-founders, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 29th. He was a young and vibrant 54 years of age.

A native of Warren, Ohio and graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Doug was an accomplished television broadcast executive, starting his career in various and progressively senior television sales positions before rising to General Manager of WHOI in Peoria, Illinois, an ABC affiliate in 1989. He served as President and General Manager for two different sets of owners for Columbus’s WCMH, the NBC affiliate and WWHO, the WB Network affiliate (now an affiliate of The CW) from 1991-1996 before becoming an executive at Benedek Broadcasting overseeing a number of Benedek’s middle-market television station.

In January 1997, Doug left Benedek to co-found ACME Communications, Inc., a start-up WB Network television station group. Doug served as ACME’s President and ultimately as CEO. He led ACME’s growth by building and acquiring eleven television stations and launched the syndicated television show, The Daily Buzz. His career at ACME spanned 17 years.

In November 2013, Doug was hired by Sinclair Broadcast and moved to Baltimore, Maryland to serve as a Group Manager overseeing several of Sinclair’s television stations. He continued to serve as ACME’s Acting President from that time until his death.

Jamie Kellner and Tom Allen, Doug’s co-founders at ACME, said “Doug was our partner and our friend. He built a team that took their responsibility as broadcasters seriously, and worked hard to inform and entertain the viewers in their communities. Doug was a full deck of attributes. He cared. He loved. He was powerful, but kind. He had enough optimism to motivate us through hard times. He was a devoted husband, father and son. He was honest, and we don't remember a cross word in the 18 years we knew him. We were blessed to have been privileged to know him and count him as a friend. We will miss him beyond words.”

Doug is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patti, his three young adult children, Nicole, Doug Jr., and Aubry, his brother Dave Gealy and his mother Martha Gealy, who still resides in Warren, Ohio.
